This paper provides investigates the influence of medicalisation of childbirth and the mother-infant bond in an era where obstetrical violence is denounced and women aspire to re-appropriate the event. Semi-structured and then free interviews were conducted. Analysis of the mother’s discourse together with clinical observations in the various relations within the different childbirth care facilities led to the observation that most negative experiences of childbirth emerged when it was more medicalised. Mother-baby observations were generally congruent with maternal experience. The observed results underline the importance of giving greater consideration to mothers before and after birth, providing them with an opportunity to speak out while also seeking to identify parents suffering from their parenthood.
