Does Marriage Threaten the Couple?

The author analyzes the transformations in the relationships within a couple which, after having lived an intense passion as lovers, knew in the marriage some moments of violence and aggressiveness. A parasitic bond then developed, dominated by control, competitiveness and impulsiveness. Following an urgent consultation motivated by physical violence, the couple therapy highlighted a conflict related to the desire of the wife to have a child (she was without child, whereas her husband had five ones). According to her husband, serious cardiac problems prohibited a pregnancy. For her, a medical follow-up would have made the pregnancy possible, but her husband did not bear the idea that a new-born baby comes between them. In this evolution, was it the marriage which was in question? Were the changes in the affects, fantasies and representations about disillusion? The psychoanalytical process facilitated the reflexions on the mental functioning of the couple and the answers of each one towards frustration.
