Perinatal recognition occurs in different ways: recognizing one’s child, recognizing the new family, or recognizing oneself as a member with expertise. Recognition structures the relationship and makes it possible for each member of the family to be linked to the original group and to separate from it in order to become an individual. In the process of perinatal recognition, the past must not be forgotten, but it must not alienate the new family in non-recognition and puerperal psychoses.
