Public psychiatry is going through a profound crisis, which is destabilizing established frameworks and loosening team bonds: the functions of the intermediary are in disarray. Based on their experience of training doctors, the authors question the effects of training initiatives in psychiatric institutions ; they develop the hypothesis that, under certain conditions, training schemes can restore the intermediary function by and within the group of professionals. The commitment to and testing of the group nature of the trainers, and the groups to which they belong, then constitute an essential foundation for the reception and treatment of institutional suffering deposited in the training space.
