Tradable quotas and sustainable management of traditional wildlife hunting in Cameroon

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2022. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The goal of this paper is to show that the set-up of a tradable quota system would lead to sustainable management of traditional wildlife hunting in the areas surrounding national parks in Cameroon. The rational behavior study of a given village evolving in an uncertain future is made using Chavez and Salgado’s (2005) model. The data used (2011) come from a number of study reports on hunting and anti-poaching in the region of Campo-Ma’an in Cameroon. The results show that when an incentive mechanism such as the tradable quota system is put in place, the park authorities should be able to obtain the cooperation of the populations located in the surrounding area in the fight against poaching.
