Urban Management and Socio-Spatial Equity: Inequalities in Basic Urban Services in Libreville, Gabon
Type de matériel :
95
The people of Libreville suffer great inequalities in terms of access to basic services, but neither state intervention nor investor-required management systems have succeeded in solving them. This situation seems paradoxical, given the major urban investment there. However, investment has not been directed to basic infrastructure, but to prestigious buildings. In addition, urban policies have been inappropriate for reducing inequalities, which were in part generated by topographical constraints, and liberal practices have even widened those disparities. The case of Gabon has a number unique features, and could enhance knowledge of the crisis of African cities.
