Children’s quality of life in child welfare

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2017. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : While there is a lot of interest in children’s quality of life in the field of education and health, this issue remains relatively unexplored in child welfare (Unicef, 2009). The purpose of this study is to compare the quality of life of 40 young children (4 to 10 years old) placed in group homes by social services and 40 and children who lived at home with their parents through the perception of the children themselves and the adults interacting with them. Two questionnaires were used: the AUQUEI (Manificat & Dazord, 1997) completed by the children themselves, and the KINDL-R (Ravens-Sieberer & Bullinger, 1998) for the adults: social workers vs. family. The main findings of this study, in addition to the identification of an impaired quality of life for children living in group homes, pertain to issues children perceive in their everyday life. This study also shows how important it is to take into consideration the child’s own perception of the situation.
