The regulation of news websites in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire

The proliferation of news websites in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire is accompanied by several forms of media misconduct. Faced with the development of an online information sector, public authorities and traditional regulators are faced with the need to adapt their practices to this segment of the media sector. We notice new legal systems and institutional changes within these classic regulatory bodies in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. While retracing the history of a tradition of authoritarian regulation, we study these changes in the field of regulation at a time of media convergence as well as the role that the actors of online information themselves play as part of self-regulation.
