By adopting a double perspective—a popular music studies and communications approach—this article analyzes the programming of Scènes de Musiques Actuelles (SMAC) (Contemporary Music Venues) in Occitania, with a view to understanding the place of these cultural intermediaries in the sound construction of this territory. By being both part of the music industry and subsidized in relation to a regional project, these music halls participate in giving a musical meaning to their territory based on the use of musical categories of “work” and “communication."
