Working in prisons confronts the psychologist-therapist with impulsive outbursts. The term “pedophilias” ought to be used in the plural. Some act out following a traumatic dimension that has been sexualized, others because of a major unresolved incestuous problem, while for others still, destructive pleasure is simply sought. Faced with this multifaceted clinical context that can sometimes give us a feeling of powerlessness, we must be able to overcome affects that will come to lodge themselves in the treatment: rejection, disgust, and anger.
