Philosophy’s current discourse on emotions sometimes resembles a catalog. The question of emotions has always occupied a central place in philosophical thought. In moral philosophy, emotions are used to frame the issue of self-control. Political philosophy uses emotions to develop a conception of human nature and government. Finally, aesthetic philosophy speaks of emotions in relation to works of the mind as mirrors of our existence.
