This text highlights in its first part, on the basis of clinical examples, three major functions of looking: a function of sensorial integration within the interpenetration process for the foundation of the body-psychic envelopes, the “skin”-capacity ; a binocular function linked to the bisexual components of looking (receiving eye-penetrating eye); a function of verticality of looking that participates in the axis foundation. Reflections on the role of the “attention-gaze” in situation of preventive or therapeutic situations are communicated in the second part of the article.
