The Adolescent Gaze and Aggression
Type de matériel :

Teenagers are extremely sensitive to the way they are looked at. They quickly feel abandoned when one does not look at them as much as they need. Likewise, they may feel persecuted when one watches them too closely. This sensitivity is exacerbated when the teenager was not gazed upon enough as a child, which is the only factor that can attenuate the violence inherent in looking people straight in the eyes. Due to the acute narcissism of adolescents and their emerging sexuality, the gaze can become a particularly invasive “social object.” In the cliques that young people form, the gaze can spark numerous conflicts in the rapports de force between boys, questions of honor, and the emotional relations between girls. These factors account for the importance of various codifications between young people and in society at large.
