Acting Out among Young Girls: When the Body Expresses Thought
Type de matériel :
78
The language of adolescents remains at the edge between the word and the thing, somewhere between body and thought. Adolescents are aware of the founding function of language in mankind, demonstrating and understanding language and its symbolic function from early on. This explains the frequency of acting out at that age, especially among girls whose bodies become the scene of those episodes of acting out: suicide attempts, self-harm , eating disorders . . . In a way, through acting out, the girl’s body speaks from the depths during the journey to self-expression. It can also leave a mark that will progressively affect the break between femininity and maternity during the girl’s path to nomination. The girl may thus possibly go through the maternal body again to build her own body as a scene. The space for transference proposed by the analyst can be such a space for untangling and construction.
