On July 14th, 2016 a very violent mass terrorist attack took place in Nice, France, which affected a large number of children and their families. A multidisciplinary child and adolescent psychological emergency unit (Cellule d’Urgence Médico-Psychologique, cump) was opened for the population and allowed from the first night on, to propose a child psychiatric counseling in a pediatric hospital. This has been a unique experience that has allowed to work respecting the confidentiality and privacy of the individual, as well as a secure setting for both children and caregivers who have been heavily affected by this event. Furthermore, we describe a work on site following the attack in a high school in Grasse, France, a few months later. These two modalities question about our missions and the necessity of the commitment of child and adolescent psychiatry to create pediatric psychologic emergency units (cump).
