The first months of a baby’s life are key moments in the process of forming ties of attachment with the parent. And yet one may ask oneself how one can work on developing these ties when a legal decision imposes a separation between the parent and the child and prescribes occasional meetings. The article raises three main questions: is the tool of the negotiated visit, which may be the first measure prescribed by the magistrate, adapted to supporting these ties? What role does the professional play in negotiating the relationship? What are the possible evolutions in child protection practices ?
