Plea for a new syndrome “Early and Excessive Exposure to Screens” (EEPS)

It is early insofar as it concerns very young children (from 5/6 months to 4/5 years in age), excessive when the time spent in front of screens sometimes exceeds several hours, and a new phenomenon owing to their invasion of family life. This “major environmental and developmental disruptor”, the screen, is at the origin of the principal syndromes (attention disorder, language delay, relational difficulties with exclusive interest, etc.) owing to an overstimulation/capture of perceptual attention at the expense of deep attention, an absence of interactive synchronisation between the young child and his close relations, etc. Once it has set in, this syndrome requires a total privation of screens.Recommendations are also offered for reducing what is almost an epidemic…
