In this article the author studies the intersections between contestation, a fundamental dimension in the process of adolescent separation-autonomisation, and commitment. When the commitment covers over the separation anxiety contained in contestation, it pushes the latter towards paths of desocialization and even of radicalization. When, on the contrary, the commitment involves investing in “internal objects”, it can contribute to the realization of social and sublimated aims.
