The author focuses on the crisis in school institutions from the experiences and remarks of students. The survey took place in three Brussels schools of different intake and was based on individual and group interviews. Research confirms an early social segmentation conducted by institutions reproducing social stratification strategies. At school students seek socializing networks and redefine the school experience as an obvious constraint: the school institution is both inescapable in most people’s lives and distorted, reappropriated because it runs counter to the individual expectations of students, parents, and teachers.
