In schools struggling to manage a heterogeneous public, educational responses to pupils who raise problems in the institution are individualized according to assumed needs of given students, notably those living in areas targetted as education priorities. Local authorities, increasing the “frameworks” for each difficulty encountered in a school area, focus on “school delinquency”. This essay results from ethnographic research concerning an organization dealing with temporarily expelled pupils within a junior high school. It investigates the effects of school segregation on the disruptive behaviors that it is supposed to stop.
