The necessity of counting right is reinforced with the increasing role of mathematics in the construction of right knowledge. And yet one of the wishes in the Freudian unconscious is the refusal of this necessity. However, this refusal does not date from the present time, or even from Freud’s time. We will examine here how Descartes negotiated with it when he founded the “subject of science”, and Lacan’s awareness of the crucial nature of the interaction of this necessity and this refusal, for the position of psychoanalysis in the era.
