Children, madmen, and dogs. Rough and serious games in Haitian hills
Type de matériel :
26
Among the Haitian hills, though rarely premeditated, two elements of an irregular and disruptive nature demonstrate certain acts of violence perpetrated mainly by children: their aggressive outbursts towards those individuals who are considered crazy, and towards herding dogs. In both cases the violent actions are accompanied by a collective exultation and competitive emulation, which shows the rather playful character of these intense childhood experiences. These two collective occurrences partake of a rich and varied repertory of the manifestations of violence in Haiti, through which children learn a form of violence valued by the group.
