Democracy: Liberal and/or Radical?

In Between Facts and Norms, Habermas sees democracy through the prism of philosophical theory and of empirical findings produced by sociology and political science. In so doing, he seeks to undo the opposition between an ideal form of normativity and a « reality » which is necessarily mundane and disseminated. This perspective created controversy, and some reproached him with defending liberal democracy while forgetting the Frankfurt School’s tradition of social criticism.
