This contribution highlights the unique career of the Alsatian Emilie Brandt (1879–1963). A tireless educator, she founded kindergartens and training schools for kindergarten teachers as she traveled from Alsace to Nice, passing through Paris, Haute-Marne (Thivet), and Vichy. She participated in the transmission of the Montessori method in France from the 1930s onward in kindergartens and with kindergarten teachers in training. She nevertheless continued to spread the Fröbelian method, which she had initially been taught in Germany. This article looks back at this little-known figure, an ambassador of the Montessori method for some of her disciples, or a representative of a "Brandtesque Montessorism," combining various influences, for others.
