Preliminary interviews are a critical moment of clinical treatment. Theoretically speaking, they present a crossroads. They serve as the occasion for the analysand and the analyst to test their desire to undertake therapy. During these interviews, the transference process is engaged and the first step toward analysis occurs. This step influences the analytical outcome of the shift from the position of analysand to analyst, particularly when it is didactic in nature.
