The idea of virginity induces contradictory feelings. At the same time as we respect it, we also have a sacrilegious desire to discover, conquer, and possess it when the signifier “virgin” refers to an unexplored territory, planet, or the Antediluvian world. In examining Greek religion, and some Judaic and Christian theses, this paper discusses the status of virginity with regard to the Imaginary, the Symbolic, and the Real.
