Based on the commentary by Lacan, Philippe Julien, and Slavoj Zizek on the play The Hostage by Paul Claudel, the author tries to distinguish between the meanings of the ancient and modern tragic and to tie them into two conceptions from end of analysis: the gesture of subjectivation or that of subjective dismissal.
