Bispo do Rosário was hospitalized for the first time at the age of 30 due to paranoid schizophrenia, after having seen visions of seven angels, who had announced to him that he had been chosen by God to build a new world. Although he had always heard voices, he had previously worked for the Navy and the Light utility company until, while living in the house of a lawyer who was employing and protecting him, he had another vision of angels who assigned him the mission of building miniatures and making embroidery that represented everything that existed on Earth and was to be presented to God on Judgment Day. Bispo fully embraced his mission, taking his delusion seriously and working in partnership with God, who had recognized him as the most important person among all. He demanded the same recognition from his friends and the employees of his hospice. He made his delusion a part of his life and his productions became a postmodern œuvre considered to have a great expressive value.
