Our desires stem from our social environment: this is one of the principle affirmations of the social sciences. After having presented elements to demonstrate this affirmation, this text is primarily consecrated to the examination of its practical consequences: how to integrate our perception of ourselves with this new vision of our desires. In contrast to that which we may at first think, the awareness of this social component of our very personal existence may be enriching, either in our own personal quest or within our practice of psychotherapy.
