Type de matériel :
19
Paoli Schwartz was the son of a dismissed French police superintendent. At the start of the First World War he was one of the best secret agents in the Zentralpolizeistelle in Strasbourg, working under the code name Agent?39. He was arrested and sentenced to hard labour in?1921, and then deported to Devil's Island in French Guiana. However, a campaign on his behalf was launched in the German press, which presented him as ? the last German war prisoner ? still detained in France. Diplomatic negotiations led to his release in?1932 and his triumphal return in Germany.
