Death is a process of biological disengagement that can have intermediate stages. The latter are not without consequences on the living, whose shared sense of humanity is suddenly or gradually destroyed. This inescapable separation of bodies is approached here from the point of view of the shock that it produces. This shock can dissociate the person and engage them into a process of trance. The latter is seen as an adaptive bridge allowing the person to go through the pain of the loss. It leads to a mental, identity and life reorganization for those who remain.
