“To be there. You just have to be there”. I often heard these words during my Gestalt therapy training. The question of the therapist’s presence with the client is at the heart of our practice. But what is this presence? This being there with our clients? Drawing on two examples, I propose to look at the different ways in which I am present as a Gestalt therapist: to be there is first and foremost to be present to oneself, to sense what is happening, and to be careful about how we share it. Based on my own practice, I will highlight ways to use this tool.
