Deuve et Ayrolles. Opinion on the anti-Japanese Guérilla in Laos
Type de matériel :
12
From January to December 1945, French commandos integrated into the British Force 136 carried out a subversive action against the Japanese army in the jungle of Laos. After the war, the difficulties encountered and successes obtained by the French, as well as the Japanese pacification techniques were analysed by Jean Deuve and Léopold-Henry Ayrolles. The difficulties concerned the reception of parachute droppings, the creation of hiding places for equipment and the establishment of a base camp. Three main principles determine the success of a guerrilla war: propaganda, intelligence and constant mobility. The Japanese compensated for the weakness of their numbers by mastering intoxication and jungle warfare, but they were unable to eradicate the French guerrillas.
