The Long Road to “Recognition”. The Armenian Genocide in the Political Discourse of the Federal Republic of Germany

In June 2016, 101 years after the event, the German Bundestag dedicated a resolution to the extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in the form of a "simple parliamentary resolution". The article traces the long and sometimes contradictory path to this resolution, placing the German discussion on recognition of the Armenian Genocide in historical, political and remembrance-cultural contexts. In addition, the text of the resolution itself is analyzed with regard to the language rules that are effective in it.
