Relationship, bond, encounter, subject, other . . . so many words that used to occupy the seemingly cloudless sky of social work, and which must do battle with those, far less poetic and crueler, of the ambient liberalism: project, contract, course, skills, individualization, etc. The field tries to reconcile these extremes and in the metaphorical vein of the Little Prince, it relentlessly attempts to highlight the former, even if that means adorning them with capital letters, while the latter embed themselves ever more deeply in practices, and very often, in minds. But since the offensive is practical and political, it is perhaps language and metaphor that should be equipped to lead the battle and, who knows, transform us from Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince into Machiavelli’s Prince.
