Prophets, grimoires, and “social” chapels

Like other occupations and professions, special education incorporates a range of highly symbolic objects into its reference system. An aura specific to figures, texts, and places that must be deciphered in light of a notion drawn from the anthropology of religion: the sacred. The analytical sidestep taken in this demonstration not only makes it possible to identify the “fundamentals” of an evolving professional culture, but also helps to prevent excessive sacralization, synonymous with inertia and resistance to change.
