Dominique Ottavi has a radical approach to the question of the purpose of schools in the rigorous context of a philosophy of education. Should schools teach or transmit a culture, values, and attitudes, an ensemble that cannot be defined as “knowledge” but that is, rather, part of the education process? Should this education be left to families, if the main objective of school is to transmit knowledge and information? This division of labor seems clear but in practice it is far from obvious.
