Recent developments in medicine have brought greater complexity to end-of-life issues. The prolongation of life in more dependent forms has caused new ethical issues to arise. It is important to go beyond a utilitarian vision of life for the benefit of a perspective that is more sensitive to patients’ vulnerability and to trusting relationships. The palliative approach must therefore be integrated into the training given to all types of health professionals.
