The social problem of subcontractors’ working conditions makes it necessary for contractors to implement supply chain disruption management. This social demand requires methods to assess the responsibilities of each partner and a communication/discussion with stakeholders. The strategy for responding to this social demand must then provide solutions to meet stakeholders’ expectations of reduced uncertainty and access to information. To better understand how an answer to a social demand to improve subcontractors’ working conditions was formulated, this article draws on the case study of Apple. The study presents an analysis of Apple’s supplier responsibility progress reports from the first report produced in 2007 through to 2016. This corpus was processed via the textual data analysis software Alceste. This analysis highlights a balanced strategy in terms of scope and frequency, based on three guidelines: organization of partnership relations, management of the risk to the supplier, and structuring of the suppliers’ working conditions.
