The aim of our paper is to study staff development in Belgian SMEs. We want to analyze whether the way entrepreneurs view human resource management (HRM) can affect staff development policies. Thanks to quantitative data from 159 Belgian entrepreneurs, we have distinguished three types of entrepreneurs that do not share the same view about their involvement in HRM. The way these entrepreneurs view HRM influences the staff development practices they implement in their company.
