Robert Schuman, who died on September 4, 1963, was one of the founding fathers of Europe. In addition to serving multiple times as minister and president of the Council, he was the first president of the European Parliament. A devout Catholic tempted by the calling of priesthood, he strove to combine his political commitment with his Christian convictions.
