The history of education in the online Encyclopedia of European History: a historiographical showcase or an educational ressource?

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2024. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : ‪This article presents the chapter dedicated to “Education and Training” in the online encyclopedia of European history (Encyclopédie d’histoire numérique de l’Europe, EHNE). The chapter, which was created in 2019, includes more than sixty articles written by French and foreign researchers, exploring the, mainly modern, history of education and training in Europe. While combining rather classical and more recent focuses of study, it fulfils a dual role: that of a showcase for a field of historiography undergoing major and that of a teaching resource helping secondary school teachers learn more about an often overlooked field; the history of education. It is also an unprecedented attempt at writing a European overview on the subject, which lends itself to both a quantitative analysis, showing the unequal treatment of different European countries within the chapter, and to a qualitative analysis of the various choices made by the authors to place their subject within a European perspective. The chapter “Education and training” ultimately appears as a hybrid tool, which contributes both to the renewal of research and the sharing of knowledge, and which can help us design a truly European and popularised history of education.‪
