In recent years, the idea that non-pharmacological interventions can be integrated into patient care and health pathways has been gaining traction in the medical field. At the same time, there is also a growing awareness that individual health issues cannot be dissociated from collective concerns at the ecosystem and planetary level. Integrative medicine and health (IMH) brings together recent discoveries that explain the pathophysiology of most chronic diseases and the concept of planetary health, a transdisciplinary research field that examines the risks associated with the pressure exerted by human activities on ecosystems and our planet (One Health, Planetary Boundaries). From this perspective of integration at multiple levels, both individual (by considering the person’s/ patient’s biopsychosocial characteristics) and collective, IMH emerges as a possible solution to meet current and future challenges, since it responds to public expectations, is supported by numerous scientific evidence, and is highly efficient in terms of resources.
