No to the Referendum: Geopolitical Consequences

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2005. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : On May 29th 2005, in France, the majority voted “No” to the referendum on the Constitutional Treaty of the European Union and it showed that the geopolitical limits were not the only limits of Europe and there was obviously a will to stop the construction of Europe as it is created now. All supporters of the “No” do not share the same vision of what Europe should be depending on their political preferences. One of the consequences of this vote is to clearly allow Tony Blair to be at the head of the new Europe, the Europe of the 25 members, where liberal convictions are clearly in majority. It surely was not the goal of the supporters of the “No.” But a part of the electorate, swept along by its political representatives, determined its choice in regards to the French internal geopolitics and not for the future of Europe. Thus, one must question the nature of the French political leaders from the beginning.
