Since the 70s and 80s, the increase in number and power of believers of evangelical churches in the United States and in the world (more than 40 millions of Americans declare belonging to one of the several evangelical movements) manifests itself in a reinforcement of the support to Israel, and also to political Zionist trends, being religious and/or nationalists. In the near future, if the advancement of the American evangelism should remain at this quantitative and qualitative level, the Jewish American lobby would be overtaken in terms of influence, and on a more global aspect, the nature of the privileged relationship with Israel would be strongly altered. Nevertheless, long before the emergence of this trend, some European Christians (and fewer in North America), Catholics, Anglicans or Protestants, had already supported, through speeches and written documents, the political Zionism and then the creation of the modern Jewish State. These encouragements did not remain discursive or theoretical; thus during the British Mandate for Palestine in the 30s and 40s, Christians fought, arms in hand, side by side with Zionists.
