The Pacific ocean, characterised by its immensity and lack of population, will be tomorrow a strategic issue for the Powers and France. The military hegemony of the USA is obvious. The Asia-Pacific area is the zone that generates most of the wealth and concentrates all the military tensions today. The Chinese aim at controlling the meridional Chinese sea. The geo-strategic issues in this area tomorrow will be; the control of the meridional chine sea where most of the commercial exchanges takes place; the issue of Taiwan; what will be japon’s attitude in the case of conflict?France from the islands of French Polynesia and New Caledonia should have a strategy as far as these issues at stake are concern. This is easier today as its presence is well accepted since the end of the nuclear tests.
