Seven thousand small islands of the Indian ocean regrouped in twenty-some units have actively participated since Antiquity in trade, which was practiced by Greeks, Arabs, Swahili peoples and Europeans. This policy was firmly opposed by the United States which, thanks to the English, obtained the best strategic position of the Indian ocean, Diego Garcia, the key to the conflicts of the risky areas of the region.
