When John Paul II died, the Polish press published several texts of the deceased Pope and religious debates were held in various places of the public sphere. Many subjects were covered, even in circles which traditionally considered Church and religion as a threat for democracy. In addition, the popular demonstrations aroud this death gave place to a new topic: the “John Paul II generation”. His life was presented like a fresh impulse given to the Christian culture in his country, by establishing parallels with what had been the “Solidarnosc generation” at the beginning of the eighties.
