Contrary to the clichés commonly taught, Communication Sciences in North America are not restricted to “quantitative” measures and to the founding of original methods of management or persuasion. The author recalls untold controversies and suggests another way of tackling the history of Information and Communication Sciences in the USA, principally in reference to the works of J. Dewey and G. H. Mead.
