Two Emerging Disciplines: Standardization and Assessment of Public Policies

This article looks into a process that is gradually transforming a corpus of knowledge on a scientific field into the possible construction of a discipline. Two case studies are discussed: technical standardization and the assessment of public policies. The constituent criteria are analyzed: the overall conceptual framework, the reference literature and the process of crystallizing—or purifying—content. The case of the “technical” is discussed, since it has often been used as a foil in the past.
